Galičica trails

Every marked trail in Galičica National Park

All 38 numbered trails on the mountain between Lake Ohrid and Lake Prespa, with a map, an elevation profile and a free GPX file for each. The park's own trail map disappeared from its website; this is that map, rescued from a 2020 archive and checked against OpenStreetMap.

Galičica (Галичица) is the limestone mountain between Ohrid and Prespa, a national park since 1958. The park marks its trails with codes you'll see painted on the signposts: H for the easier ones, T for the longer and steeper, G for the ridges above 1,600 m, and MTB for bike trails. The codes on this site match the signs.

The trails

Length and climb are measured on the line as the park drew it, from one end to the other. Climb is from SRTM elevation data, so treat it as a good estimate rather than gospel. Tap a trail for its map, profile, guideposts and connections.

The park's suggested routes

The park strings trails together into ten day routes, with its own length, walking time and difficulty for each direction. Descriptions are translated from the park's Macedonian text.

On your phone

We recommend Organic Maps. It's free and open source, has no ads or tracking, works fully offline, and draws its map from OpenStreetMap, which already shows most of the paths on Galičica. The park's trail lines on top tell you which path is which.

  1. Install Organic Maps from the App Store or Google Play (or F-Droid).
  2. While you're on wifi, open the app, find North Macedonia and download its map. Albania too if you'll walk near the border on the high ridge.
  3. On this site, tap a trail's GPX button, or download all trails at once. Open the file with Organic Maps: on iPhone, from the Files app or the share sheet; on Android, tap the downloaded file or share it to Organic Maps. The trail appears as a list under Bookmarks and Tracks, with its guideposts as places.
  4. On the mountain, your position shows on the trail with no signal at all. Tap the track for its length and elevation.

The same files work in AlpineQuest, OsmAnd, Gaia GPS, Locus and on Garmin devices if you already use one of those.

  • galicica-trails.geojson: the same trails with their stats as properties, for QGIS, uMap or your own map.
  • galicica-trails.kml: for Google Earth and Google My Maps.
  • One GPX per trail and per route, linked from each trail's page and from the table above.
